Chapter 7

Why Enterprise Integration Patterns Matter

Apache Camel is strongly influenced by Enterprise Integration Patterns, or EIPs. These patterns describe common solutions to messaging and integration problems. Learning them helps developers design routes at a higher architectural level instead of writing ad hoc glue code everywhere.

Chapter 7

Content-Based Router

from("direct:orders")
    .choice()
        .when(header("priority").isEqualTo("HIGH"))
            .to("jms:queue:priorityOrders")
        .otherwise()
            .to("jms:queue:normalOrders");
Chapter 7

Splitter and Aggregator

A splitter breaks one message into many smaller messages. An aggregator recombines multiple related messages into one result. These patterns are common in batch decomposition, order item processing, multi-record feeds, and workflow coordination.

Chapter 7

Pattern Thinking Is a Major Skill Upgrade

Beginners often think in terms of individual lines of route code. Intermediate and advanced Camel users think in patterns: filter, multicast, split, aggregate, route, retry, compensate. That shift is important.
